Operations in Afghanistan >> UK troops are deployed in Afghanistan as part of NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF), creating a stable environment to help the Afghan Government to extend its authority across the country and to enable reconstruction and development to take place.  Source: Ministry of Defence Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth has visited the areas of central Helmand secured by British and Afghan troops in Operation MOSHTARAK and seen how progress is being made.
